Decatur Bicentennial Identity Process

Purpose

For a year-long SCADpro, The City of Decatur called on the film department to interview 200 residents about their lives to celebrate their 200th birthday. Designers were asked to create visuals for various moving parts to promote this campaign. The best direction will be used throughout the city and gain heavy visibility.
The overall goal of this project is to create a memorable event identity that gets residents excited about telling the stories that impacted their lives. My personal goal is to create a campaign centered around community and empowerment.

Each designer will create a series of 3 design directions to present to SCADpro. For each direction, all designers must use the copy, logos, typography, and brand colors given by the City of Decatur.

Results

Challenges
Although my design direction was well received by my peers, it did not make the cut as the final event campaign because it was more focused on the people rather than Decatur itself. After receiving that feedback, I understood that my idea was appreciated conceptually but it was not ideal for the final campaign.
Successes

Greatly enough, there was room to expand on this project. Even though it was not selected, I was able to update my direction and continue to add to the existing concept as if my direction was selected.
